Less Quit, More Grit: Recap (Nov. 9)

Published November 18, 2025

Pastor Nathan wrapped up our Declaration series with a powerful message on continuing to stand firm in Jesus by having a true grit.

How easy is it for you to quit when life gets hard?

In a world that celebrates comfort and convenience, perseverance can feel old-fashioned. Yet Scripture calls us to something deeper — a holy grit that keeps us steady when life gets tough. The Apostle Paul reminds us in 1 Corinthians 15:58, “Be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.” Grit is not just about trying harder; it’s about standing firm when everything in us wants to walk away.

It’s choosing faithfulness over flashiness — not because it’s easy, but because God is worth it. Grit doesn’t grow in the comfort zone; it’s developed in the uphill climb. James 1:2–3 teaches us to “consider it pure joy… whenever you face trials,” because those trials produce endurance.

The secret isn’t waiting until the storm hits to find strength — it’s setting our minds on joy before the trial ever comes. We also need people around us who refuse to let us quit. Real community doesn’t just cheer us on in victory; it holds us up in the struggle, like we see in Exodus 17:12-13. And finally, we must run for something bigger than ourselves — the glory of God and the good of others. When our “why” is eternal, our “how” becomes possible.

True grit isn’t loud or glamorous. It’s the quiet faithfulness of showing up, believing again, and trusting that God is at work even when we can’t see it.

Prayer:
Lord, help me to develop holy grit. Teach me to find joy before the trial, surround me with people who push me toward Your purpose, and keep my heart fixed on something greater than myself. When I’m tempted to quit, remind me that You never give up on me. Amen.
