The Lord Will Provide: Recap
It's Christmas time, can you believe it?! We began in our new series, 'His Name Is', looking in the Old Testament.
Genesis 22 reminds us of a God who sees, knows, and provides—even when we cannot yet see the way forward. In this week’s message, we followed Abraham and Isaac up the mountain, where Abraham walked with a trembling faith, hands shaking as he bound the son he loved, choosing obedience over understanding.
His worship cost him something (Gen. 22:5). Real worship always does.
The question for us is this: Can we trust and pray like Abraham trusted and prayed? Can we keep walking when the road makes no sense? Can we keep believing when the sacrifice feels too heavy?
From this story, we see three powerful truths about God’s provision:
1. God provides in His time. We have our timetables, but God is never late. Abraham didn’t see the ram until the final moment—yet God was already working.
2. God provides in His way. His provision rarely looks like ours. Sometimes it comes through shared suffering, unexpected opportunities, surprising people, or heart-pounding moments where all we can do is cling to Him. But even then, God still makes a way.
3. God provides for His purposes. When Abraham obeyed, God revealed the ram—His miraculous provision (Gen. 22:13-14). Abraham named the place Yahweh Yireh, The Lord Will Provide. It’s not just something God did—it’s something He promises to keep doing.
The focus of this story isn’t Abraham’s willingness to sacrifice. It’s God’s willingness to provide.
And on another hill, generations later, God provided again.
Jesus is our Lamb.
Jesus is our sacrifice. (2 Corinthians 5:21)
Through Him, God has provided forgiveness, grace, and unending love.
So the invitation today is simple and life-changing:
Can you trust Him? Can you receive what He has already provided in King Jesus?
May we walk with the same courageous faith as Abraham—holding nothing back, because God has held nothing back from us.
